Moss and Johansson Leave Mission: Impossible 3

Scarlett Johansson "Mission: Impossible 3" director J.J. Abrams tells that Carrie-Anne Moss and Scarlett Johansson are no longer part of the cast.

The reason? The script was rewritten and it didn't make sense to squeeze specific actors into the story for the sake of casting. "I'm a huge fan of each actor that they cast originally," Abrams says, "but to have kept the actors when we are reinventing the story would have been an odd process, to say, 'Write a script with these people in mind for characters that haven't been written.' It just felt like we had to start over with a clean slate."

In the interview, Abrams does not reveal replacements for Moss and Johansson (for the love of God, don't let Tom Cruise cast Katie Holmes; "Mission: Gigli" anyone?) However, Abrams notes that filming on the long-delayed "Mission: Impossible 3" will begin in July.
