Michael Bay's latest exercise in explosions and jump cuts, "The Island," now has its very own official site.
The site is one of a new breed of super-intricate "companion" sites that features traditional marketing material -- trailers, photos, breathless declarations of awesomeness -- as well as a cornucopia of tangential story information. Case in point: external links to Merrick Biotech, a fictional corporation at the center of the film. The effectiveness of "The Island's" site remains to be seen, but it's clear a lot of time, effort and money went into this thing.
"The Island" opens July 22. For more on this film visit our "Island" spotlight page. -- Mac Slocum
