Terminator 3 Director Takes Swiss Family Robinson

Director Jonathan Mostow, best known for tense thrillers ("U-571," "Breakdown") and big-budget action flicks ("Terminator 3"), will venture outside his oeuvre with a remake of "Swiss Family Robinson."

Variety says Mostow and writing partner Sam Montgomery will rewrite the script. The update will remain true to the original story's 19th-century setting.

Mostow's past work has included R-rated fare ("Breakdown," "T3"), so his "Swiss Family Robinson" will probably be edgier than Disney's 1960 film. Of course, that edge is likely to stop at PG-13 since a bloodthirsty and profane Robinson family would give Disney execs the shakes.

Filming on "Swiss Family Robinson" will begin in Australia next year. Further casting and production details have not been announced. -- Mac Slocum
