The film is being written by Cheo Hodari Coker, a former hip-hop journalist who knows a thing or two about the Notorious B.I.G. (aka Biggie Smalls, né Christopher Wallace). Coker wrote "Unbelievable: The Life, Death, and Afterlife of the Notorious B.I.G.."
The film is being produced by Wallace's mother and his former managers, so those anticipating a pro-Tupac montage will be sorely disappointed. Sorry about that.
Wallace died in 1997 at age 24 after being shot by an unknown assailant. A recent wrongful death civil trial between Wallace's family and the Los Angeles Police Department brought Wallace's murder back into the spotlight. The case ended in a mistrial after discovery of new documents, but an attorney for Wallace's family says another lawsuit is forthcoming. -- Mac Slocum
