ComingSoon.net and ComicBookMovie.com have quotes from an interview Joss Whedon gave on the upcoming "Wonder Woman" movie. He talks about how the character will be portrayed: naive but strong. He talks about the plot of the movie: a more male story arc, like the "Hero's Journey," than the more complex story arc's we've seen in his other works ("Buffy," and "Angel.") He does not mention casting at all.
The choice of Whedon to helm bodes well for the film. Whedon will bring his gifts of great dialog, and his use of action as metaphor, meaning that this Wonder Woman should have more depth than some other recent superhero flicks. (I'm looking at you Daredevil, even if Brian liked you. ) Additionally, he will should be able to conjure up yet another unique strong female character with the classic Wonder Woman as a great starting place. Finally, Whedon makes great casting decisions, whoever gets chosen to play the comic book princess will really fit the role, and won't just be the hot It girl of the moment with a brunette dye-job.
All this aside, Whedon does say some stuff that makes no sense. He states: "I've never loved the comics and I didn't watch the television series, but I loved the character very much. " This implies that he discovered the character using some other medium. Through what other medium could one come to love the character? There could have been a "Wonder Woman" radio show back in the day, but Whedon's a bit young for that... --Terrence Ryan
