ComingSoon.net reveals that Keanu Reeves is to star as the titular character in "Stompanado" a biopic about the mobster/wannabe actor/Lana Turner boyfriend. Adrian Lane ("Unfaithful," "Flashdance") is on board as the director, and it hints that Catherine Zeta Jones may take a role too. It does not say, but it seems obvious that Jones would play the role of movie start Turner. The other major role in the film will be of Turner's daughter Cheryl Crane who ultimately stabbed Stompanado to death in a case of justifiable homicide.
At first glance it seems a bit of a stretch for Reeves, who isn't quite the menacing thug type. However he says of the character, "I always see it as a kind of Beaty [sic.] and the Beast, where he doesn't want to get rid of [the beast], but he wants to be more than the brute." Which indicates the direction the film will take, showing Stompanado as more than just a mobster thug. Therefore Reeves might not be that unorthodox choice for the role after all. --Terrence Ryan
