No less than three other outlets (Digital Theater, ComingSoon.net, and AintItCool.) are reporting that Peter Jackson has signed on to produce a film adaptation of the video game Halo. Digital Theater also has a link Bungie.net, the production studio for the game. They tell a story about trying to promote the script to film studio, and reveal that Alex Garland ("28 Days Later")is the writer, which IMDB confirms. IMDB also reports the movie as being slated for 2007.
It's unclear when production will start, but other than wrapping "King Kong," and filming "The Lovely Bones" Jackson doesn't have a lot on his plate for the next few years. Garland has a untitled projects in the work, and "28 Weeks Later." Prognosis is neutral. There is chatter on the message boards about the script having "bad buzz" but there were no details., and it is a video game movie. However, Jackson has proven that he can adapt material extremely well, and Garland knows how to tell a story. - Terrence Ryan
I have to admit I'm a bit surprised by it, but maybe he's going to go after it as a white whale. "I will make a good video game movie."
It could be hubris.

I'm pretty stunned by this development. Jackson's pedigree gives "Halo" some pretty impressive legitimacy.
