Kevin Smith Flees Fletch

2005_kevin_smith.jpg has it that Kevin Smith is no longer working on the upcoming remake of "Fletch." They report that there was tension because of Smith's desire to see Jason Lee in the lead role. Supposedly, Zach Braff is the producers favorite. Smith claims that the break was amicable enough.

It's unclear as to how reliable the report of the reasons are. Lee is incredibly hot right now, as being able to deliver a hit to NBC is pretty much the TV equivalent of turning water to wine. Meanwhile the producers state that Smith's kind of comedy isn't "Fletch." Which is pretty odd because normally one watches like a films of a director they line up to make a movie for you. Or at least I do when I invest millions of dollars. (Or I would.) What ever the case here, there is more to this story than anyone is letting on.

I think it's funny that none of these people were interested in Jason Lee, and now his show is doing so awesome.

I like Zach Braff... But maybe producers will come to their senses and let Kevin Smith cast Lee as the Green Hornet -- although I think he might have taken himself out of that project too. Bummer!
