Pat Morita Passes Away at Age 73

Pat Various sources around the Internet (ABCNews, CBC) have reported that Pat Morita passed away this past Thursday. The 73 year old actor was perhaps best known for his Oscar nominated role as Mr. Miyagi, and his role as Arnold in "Happy Days." He passed away at his home in Las Vegas, and is survived by his wife Evelyn, and two daughters from a previous marriage.

In addition to his two iconic roles, Morita's own character made compelling story. He was hospitalized at a young age due to spinal tuberculosis. He recovered, only to be place in a Japanese Internment camp during WWII. He then went on to pursue comedy and acting, while holding on to a computing day job. He began to get more and more stereotypical ethnic roles until he landed the roles in Happy Days and Karate Kid. The rest is movie history for those of us that practiced crane kicks in our living rooms while watching Karate Kid for the 100th time. --Terrence Ryan
