According to GameShout.com, Sprint is gearing up to offer complete movie downloads via their cellphone network. The movie will be displayed on Sprint's line of video cell phones. The service will begin at $6.95 in addition to the other fees for the Sprint service. The offerings at present are not too impressive, a couple of old westerns, "Night of the Living Dead," and "Short Circuit."
The service sounds like the seeds of something very cool. Unfortunately, Sprint has a history of offering impressive services that no one uses because they're afraid of unreliable coverage. But this certainly is sign of things to come.
And by that I mean the future includes "Short Circuit" appearing everywhere. Johnny 5 retro kitsch is going to be the theme of 2006. Dumber predictions have come true. --Terrence Ryan
