Depp tops IMDB list

Johnny Depp For the second year in a row Johnny Depp tops IMDb's list of top 25 stars according to their STARmeter listing. The list is pretty interesting as it is based solely on people's search behavior in the IMDb database. Therefore the rank reflects the interest of IMDb users interest in a particular person, as opposed to an editorial staff or other 'authoritative source' issuing some sort of opinion dressed up as a proclamation of star power.

Interesting newcomers to the list include: Jessica Alba ("Sin City"); Christian Bale ("Batman Begins"); and Rachel McAdams ("Wedding Crashers.") It was also Robert DeNiro's first year on the list, despite only starring in 1 film in 2005 versus the 4 he worked on in 2004. This may be an indication that the list skews in favor of younger stars, due to IMDb user demographics.

Most of the people who dropped off the list didn't do much this year: Jennifer Garner ("13 Going on 30"); Viggo Mortensen("Return of the King"); and Quentin Tarantino ("Kill Bill: Volume 2").

Finally, one that absolutely puzzles me, Vin Diesel was on the list this year and last year. My only theory... people did IMDB searches to answer the question: "What the hell ever happened to that Vin Diesel guy?" --Terrence Ryan
