Holy Mary, Mother of God

More religious programming is coming our way according to the Hollywood Reporter. "Nativity" will tell the story of Mary , the mother of Jesus, from her early life through the birth of Christ. The story will focus on the character of Mary, and the role has been given to Keisha Castle-Hughes ("Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith").

Normally I would regard this as just a cynical attempt to strip mine religious material for anything that will yield profit for them. However the story of Mary, doesn't get a lot of focus. I have a flashback of Catholic School --- a nun explaining to my class that Mary was conceived immaculately because "you wouldn't put flowers in a dirty vase." It will be nice to see Mary as something other than a wrapper for Jesus. --Terrence Ryan
