Joseph Fiennes goes head to head with German flying legend Manfred von Richthofen (aka the Red Baron) in writer/director Nikolai Müllerschön's epic "The Red Baron," according to Variety.
Fiennes will play Captain Roy Brown, the Canadian pilot credited with shooting down the World War I top gun in 1918.
Though the producers describe it as more of a "modern take on the legend," the film will retell Richtofen's career as World War I's most celebrated flyer.
"The Red Baron" stars Matthias Schweighoefer ("Polly Blue Eyes" and "FeardotCom") as the Baron, with Lena Headey ("The Brothers Grimm" and "The Cave") as his love interest and Til Schweiger ("King Arthur" and "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life") as the Baron's flying buddy.
Fiennes can be seen in Finn Taylor's "The Darwin Awards" with Winona Ryder which premiered at Sundance earlier this year (and is still searching for a US distributer). He also recently completed "Running with Scissors" with Annette Bening and Gwyneth Paltrow.
