Nick Cage Gets His Candelabra On for Liberace Bio

Nicolas Cage Nicolas Cage appears to have a soft spot for elaborate stage shows and bedazzled clothing. reports that Cage will produce and star in a biopic of flamboyant pianist Liberace.

Yes. Liberace. The guy who fought off homicidal killers in "Con Air" and thwarted a chemical weapon attack in "The Rock" is going to play Liberace ... and this is precisely why Cage deserves some friggin' respect. The guy has dabbled in his fair share of mindless action, but he's got no qualms about tweaking his image.

He also has no qualms about naming his kid Kal-el ... but we'll save that for another time.

Liberace consistently denied claims of homosexuality throughout his career, including after he was sued by his former live-in partner in the '80s. TMZ says the movie will focus on Liberace's double-life. Liberace died in '87, so it appears the "dead people don't sue" clause is in full effect on this project.

Cage's Liberace flick could begin filming as early as this fall. -- Mac Slocum
