Kate Beckinsale has
been tapped to replace Sarah
Jessica Parker in the Screen Gems horror thriller "Vacancy," according to
The
Hollywood Reporter.
"Vacancy" will co-star Beckinsale and Luke Wilson as a couple
who find video cameras in their motel room, then realize they are being
taped for a snuff
film. Yikes! Sounds like the Bates Motel
of the new millennium.
A spokeswoman for Screen Gems said that Parker dropped out of the film for the vague/standard "personal" reasons.
Beckinsale most recently starred in Sony Pictures' "Click," opposite Adam
Sandler and will next appear in the upcoming "Snow Angels" with Sam Rockwell.
"Vacancy" marks her return to Screen Gems following
her leading role in the "Underworld"
films.
Frank Whaley has
also signed on to the film and will apparently play the anti-hero. Does
that - by default - mean he saves the day (though reluctantly)? I hope the film isn't
as predictable as that.
Actor/director/writer Whaley was onscreen this summer in Oliver
Stone's "World Trade
Center." He also recently wrapped
principal photography on "New
York City Serenade," a movie he wrote and
directed that stars Chris
Klein and Freddie
Prinze Jr.
