Batman Flies to Chicago
There's a squib from Terry Armour in today's
Chicago Tribune about various film projects happening currently in the Windy City. If I'm getting the math correct, it looks like Warner Brothers trucks will roll into Chicago sometime in July. The reason: 13 weeks of primary filming for the sequel to "
Batman Begins".
The new installment to the rebooted franchise is at this point titled "The Dark Knight," but since returning director Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer are being credited with the story, it doesn't appear this will in any way resemble the Frank Miller graphic novel of the same name.
Nolan isn't the only one returning, of course. Christian Bale returns as tortured (dare we say--batty?) soul Bruce Wayne, and as was widely reported, Heath Ledger is onboard as the Joker. (Jack Nicholson is saving him a courtside seat at the next Lakers game, I'm sure.)
The film is slated for release on July 18, 2008.

It's been written and said many times before, but I think Christopher Nolan deserves even more praise for bringing Batman roaring back from its rubber-nippled demise (damn you, Schumacher!). "Batman Begins" was a phenomenal film and I'm really looking forward to the follow up.
