Woody Allen, who appears to be forsaking his beloved Manhattan for Continental Europe, has cast Penelope Cruz to star in his latest venture. The new project, which has yet to be titled, will begin filming in Barcelona a little later this summer; Allen's last three films, Match Point, Scoop and the yet-to-be-released Cassandra's Dream, were filmed in and around London.
The role in the new Allen picture will apparently call for Cruz to speak both Spanish and English. We can only hope it does not also call for Cruz to make goo-goo eyes at Allen as well (like Deborah Messing had to do, in "Hollywood Ending.") Cruz's latest release is Volver, for which she received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. She's also won a Goya, a top prize for Spanish cinema.
