Jeff Bridges Joins "Iron Man"

Well, "Wonder Woman" has lost Joss, but "Iron Man" has gained The Dude. The Big Lebowski himself, Jeff Bridges, is now part of the cast of Marvel Entertainment's first non-studio backed project. Kevin Feige, Marvel's head of production, confirmed the casting, but did not elaborate on what role, hero or villain, Bridges might play: "There are many facets to this character which I can't discuss, but looking at the spectrum of all of Jeff's roles, this fits in nicely."

The title role of Iron Man/Tony Stark will be handled by Robert Downey, Jr.--arguably the most interestingly nutty bit of superhero casting since Michael Keaton first donned the Batsuit. Also involved are Terrence Howard and Gwyneth Paltrow (as Pepper Pots)--making now a cast of four Oscar-recognized (either by wins or nominations) actors working on the project.

But before you think such credentials can give a comic film a quality boost, just take a moment to think about "Catwoman". We'll know one way or the other by the release date of May 2, 2008.
