Alan Arkin joins "Get Smart"

Recent Oscar-winner and comedic national treasure Alan Arkin has signed on to the "Get Smart" feature, which only just exited the pre-production stage. The film is being directed by Peter Segal, from a script by Tom J. Astle, with a scheduled release date of June 20, 2008.

Arkin will be reteaming with his "Little Miss Sunshine" co-star Steve Carell, who is playing the bumbling secret agent Maxwell Smart (talk about perfect casting). Arkin will play the Chief (as in "Sorry about that, Chief") of CONTROL, the spy agency dedicated to monitoring and thwarting the world-domination schemes of KAOS. (No relation to the Roger Waters album "Radio KAOS," however.)

Also signed on to the project are Anne Hathaway as Agent 99, and The Rock, as Agent 23.

This is not the first time the Mel Brooks-created "Get Smart" has attempted the leap from small screen to silver screen. In 1980, "The Nude Bomb" stunk up theaters nationwide.

Love the addition of Alan Arkin!! Not sure what I think of Anne Hathaway. I don't hate her or anything, I am just wondering if she will be a good choice. Also don't know if the Rock will help or hurt the movie. Oh well... I am sure I will see it!
