Casting News: Star Trek and Indiana Jones
Casting news from two important Paramount camps: first comes word that Cate Blanchett has been cast in the upcoming Indiana Jones sequel. Aside from Harrison Ford, this is the first real piece of casting news for this project, though there have been rumors aplenty ranging from Sean Connery returning as Indy's dad to Natalie Portman as possible offspring. That's assuming Dr. Jones had time for some love, but really we don't know anything about David Koepp's screenplay, which has been locked in a vault guarded by all those tarantulas from the first movie.
Meanwhile, back on the Final Frontier, J.J. Abrams "Star Trek" is reportedly closing to signing both Gary Sinese and Adrian Brody. Sinese would pay Dr. McCoy in a limited role, as the story is supposed to revolve mainly around Kirk and Spock--though rumor now is that this is not the Starfleet Academy story that has been assumed for so long. Details are being worked out so that filming would not interfere with his "CSI" schedule. Brody has been linked to the Spock role and is reportedly also close to signing--but you never know. It could be Shia LaBeouf playing Spock, eventually.

Now I really like Gary Sinise, but the first thought I had when I heard about his possible casting was "Why are they picking someone over 50 years old to play a character from the early days of Trek?"
Odd choice...
