Cryptozoologists everywhere can rejoice as Hogzilla, the well-known 800 lb. mutant hog killed in Georgia three years ago, will be the subject of an independent horror film. Lithium Productions will shoot on location in and around Alapaha, Georgia, where the animal was discovered and killed in 2004. Producer Rick Trimm confirmed that not only will Lithium seek local talent, they have already hired guide Chris Griffin, the man responsible for shooting Hogzilla, as their resident "hog expert." Because God knows, on a movie like this, you're going to need yourself a hog expert.
Though initially treated as a forced-perspective photographic hoax, the existence of Hogzilla was confirmed by none other than National Geographic, who sent a documentary crew down to exhume and measure the remains. The NG findings were somewhat less than local accounting (causing a minor controversy) but still attest to a mammoth hog (800 lbs.; 8 feet in length) by anyone's measure.
Hogzilla is apparently not alone in the Georgia woods--in January 2007, a second giant hog--this one reportedly topping 1,100 lbs.--was shot outside Fayetteville. While independent scientists have yet to confirm this creature, the stories undoubtedly add grist for the mills of indie horror film producers.
Can a Florida Skunk Ape feature be far behind?
