Wolverine banks $35 million on its opening day.

Even with all the negative buzz and a potentially damaging internet leak, that did not stop moviegoers from embracing the start of the summer movie season. According to boxoffice.com, the 20th Century Fox and Marvel comic flick "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" took in $35 million at the domestic box office on its opening day yesterday.
The $130 million budgeted prequel/sequel/spin-off of the popular comic franchise (which returns Hugh Jackman to the iconic hero) also took in an approximate $5 million during the midnight showings on Thursday night. This number is included in the $35 million figure.
The very impressive start for "Wolverine" matches last year's "Iron Man," which took in $35.2 million on its opening day and went on to accumulate a massive $102.1 million for its first weekend. "Wolverine" is likely to fall short of that mark with an opening weekend predicted somewhere between $84 and $89 million. The explanation of it falling below "Iron Man" may come down to its mediocre reviews and rather negative buzz.
Official weekend results will be reported on Sunday, May 3rd.
