It seems J.J Abrams is returning to the franchise that kick-started his feature film career.
After the success of Star Trek, Abrams has been lured back in by Tom Cruise for another Mission Impossible installment. Abrams has yet to sign on to direct, but according to TV Guide, he is set to produce.
“I am incredibly honored that Tom has invited me back as producer on Mission: Impossible 4… Tom and I have come up with a really cool idea we are pursuing.”
Mission Impossible III received mainly positive reviews, but it underperformed at the box-office, being the lowest grossing film of the franchise. However, it still raked in close to $400 million worldwide, and with a budget of $150 million it clearly made a profit. With Tom Cruise's career getting back on track and Abrams being the hottest filmmaker in Hollywood after Star Trek, expect Mission Impossible IV to be in competition for one of the highest grossing films of the franchise.
At this time, a release date for the film has yet to be confirmed.
