Ryan Reynolds cast as the The Green Lantern

Ryan Reynolds is rapidly becoming one of the hottest names in Hollywood right now after scoring two hit movies this summer (X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Proposal). Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds is confirmed to play The Green Lantern in Warner Bros./DC Comic's upcoming superhero movie. The film is shooting for a 2011 release.

Reynolds beat out Bradley Cooper (The Hangover), Jared Leto (Requiem for a Dream), and Justin Timberlake for the role in an intense several months of casting for the studio. Martin Campbell (Casino Royale and the upcomingEdge of Darkness) has signed on to direct the feature. The reason for the long search came down to the director, producer, and studio having different choices for the lead actor.

Reynolds is very busy these days in the comic-book world. After playing Deadpool in this summer's hit X-Men flick, Reynolds will play Deadpool in the characters own spin-off which is also rumored for a 2011 release date. Due to the fact that he just got cast as The Green Lantern, that release date is likely to change.

Thank goodness they didn't choose JustinT ... I just don't picture GL as a BackStreetBoy alterego.
