No Screenings of G.I Joe for Critics

G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra is this summer's last blockbuster. Too bad for the critics. They'll have to wait.

The latest action blockbuster is due to be released this Friday, August 7th. And there is a reason why you haven't seen any real reviews yet. Paramount has decided not to screen the movie for critics in advance, most likely under the assumption that it will be slashed with negative reviews.

"After the chasm we experienced with Transformers 2 between the response of audiences and critics, we chose to forgo opening-day print and broadcast reviews as a strategy to promote G.I. Joe," says Paramount Vice Chairman Rob Moore, in an interview with The Associated Press. "We want audiences to define this film."

The film has been screened for selected groups, none of which so far are top critics on, a website mainly for critics and movie reviews. So far, reviews have been surprisingly kind, as G.I Joe could be the surprise hit of the summer. Tracking for the film has been strong, so only time will tell.
