"Lost" Finds More Kudos
This week the cast of ABC's hit series "Lost" was named "Entertainer of the Year" by Entertainment Weekly, which dubbed the show "the biggest cult breakout since The X-Files."
Despite its "geeky pedigree," the show's viewership this season has risen to 17.8 million, up from last season's 15.9 average. It was also crowned TV's best drama by Emmy voters.
How could the whole cast gain the title? The answer is woven into the fabric of the show itself. The show relies on every member of its large ensemble cast to keep things interesting.
In its article, EW said, "Parsing Lost's brilliance is tricky, given how its virtues are intricately interlaced — meaty mysteries, woven into intense human drama, imbued with Big Ideas, packaged in a sprawling, time-toggling narrative." Moreover, according to EW, the show has created "not only a noodle-cooking mythology but a polyglot of unique characters — damaged souls fumbling for enlightenment and redemption in the damnedest of places — played by the best ensemble cast on television."
(Of course, the EW issue also featured the "Grossest Things on TV" this year, which topped with an episode of "Being Bobby Brown" in which dear Bobby used his hand to "help" Whitney with her constipation. Yes, you read that right. Puts a brilliant show like "Lost" on an even higher pedestal, if you ask me.)
The amazing cast of "Lost" includes Jack (Mathew Fox), the fearless doctor with a daddy complex; Kate (Evangeline Lilly), the sexy criminal-on-the-run; Charlie (Dominic Monaghan) the recovering heroine addict/rock-star; Sawyer (Josh Holloway), the hard-on-the-outside yet soft-on-the-inside tough guy with a chip on his shoulder; Locke (Terry O'Quinn), the creepy Island survivalist/Zen-master; Sayid (Naveen Andrews), former Iraqi soldier with a soft-spot for the ladies; Claire (Emilie de Ravin) the reluctant mother who gave birth on the island; Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) and Sun (Yunjin Kim), the struggling and complicated marrieds trying to keep it together; Michael (Harold Perrineau), the flawed but tirelessly devoted father; and Hurley (Jorge Garcia), the numbers-cursed lotto winner.
