"Butterfly Effect" Series Announced

Butterfly EffectAccording to Variety, while a film sequel is underway, "The Butterfly Effect" empire continues to grow as the SciFi Channel announces production of a series.

The cabler has joined with feature exec producers Anthony Rhulen, AJ Dix, Chris Bender and JC Spink on a series pilot based on the 2004 Ashton Kutcher film. NBC Universal TV Studio will produce.

"The Butterfly Effect" series continues the story of Kutcher's character, Evan, who discovers he has the ability to go back and forth in time to change the future of himself and others -- for better or worse.

As reported earlier, the film sequel, "The Butterfly Effect 2" stars Erica Durance and will follow a new character who finds he can travel through time.

The series is slated to launch sometime next year.

Is it just me or is anyone else out there confused as to why this film is getting so much attention? I thought it was widely recognized as a terrible movie. I could only make it through the first 30 minutes of it. So why a sequel AND a series? Is this to be the new "Quantum Leap"? I think this plot line would be hard pressed to do the fun and creative stuff that Dr. Sam Beckett, Al and Ziggy did more than a decade ago. Hrumph. They'll make a sequel out of this, but they won't give us new "Firefly"? Annoying. --Shannon Nolley
