According to SuperheroHype!, Universal's genre arm - Rogue Pictures - has picked up the feature film rights to the horror graphic novel series, HACK/slash. Music video helmer Todd Lincoln is set to direct for producers Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter.
HACK/slash, created by Tim Seeley and Stefano Caselli, is a fan favorite sensation from Devil's Due Publishing. The series chronicles the adventures of Cassie Hack, a young woman who travels to small towns across the country hunting slashers the caliber of Michael Meyers, Jason Vorhees, and Freddy Krueger.
Lincoln will also write the film's script. Lincoln co-wrote and will direct Fox Searchlight's upcoming remake of "The Fly."
Askarieh and Alter are producing "Hitman" (based on the video game series) at Fox, with Vin Diesel attached to star. Askarieh is also producing "Spy-Hunter" with The Rock attached to star. Askarieh and Alter are currently developing a number of high-concept and genre-based projects, including several video game and comic book properties.
As a lover of all things sci-fi and horror, I'm psyched about this film! Even if it turns out a wretched version of the comic, it will - at the very least - serve as a reprieve from the rash of terrible re-makes that seem to be plaguing our theaters. Who knows? This could be the next generation of "Buffy"-esque fodder. If only Master Whedon would helm it. (*wistful dreaming*) --Shannon Nolley
