The Hulk

According to E!Online, Lou Ferrigno, the bodybuilding champ who played Dr. Banner's "darker" half in the 1970s TV series, "The Incredible Hulk," will be sworn in tonight as a Los Angeles County reserve deputy sheriff (badge, baton and gun included).

"I am proud to be able to do my part as part of the team and to help these brave and dedicated deputy sheriffs in keeping Los Angeles County safe for the people who live, work and visit here," Ferrigno said in a statement.

Ferrigno will be assigned the task of deputy recruitment. and has also talked about working with abused children, according to Jeffrey Prang, special assistant to Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca.

As a reserve deputy, Ferrigno will be required to put in 20 hours of service a month for which he'll be paid $1 annually.

Ferrigno played the green guy on "The Incredible Hulk" from 1978-82 and three follow-up TV movies. More recently, Ferrigno had a cameo in Ang Lee's big-screen adaptation of the Marvel Comics tale, guest starred on "The King of Queens" and donned a deputy's badge in "Reno 911."

Ferrigno joins the ranks of bodybuilding public servants in California. In case you've forgotten (how could you?), former bodybuilding champ and action star Arnold Schwarzenegger currently serves as governor. --Shannon Nolley
