Sci-Fi Hall of Fame Announces New Members

RedOrbit is reporting that Seattle's Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame has announced its 2006 inductees, which include "Star Wars" filmmaker George Lucas.
This year's inductees are Lucas, Hugo Award-winner Anne McCaffrey (author of the "Dragonriders of Pern" series), the late Frank Herbert (author of "Dune"), and the recently deceased Hugo Award-winning artist Frank Kelly Freas. They will be inducted during a special ceremony at the museum on June 17th.
Founded in 1996, the Hall of Fame honors the
lives, works, and ongoing legacies of science fiction's greatest
creators.
Each year since its founding, the Hall of Fame has inducted four
individuals on the basis of their continued excellence and long-time
contribution to the science fiction field. Nominees are
submitted by Science Fiction Museum members and the inductees are
chosen by a panel of award-winning science fiction creators.
Other inductees include Isaac Asimov,
Philip K. Dick,
Damon Knight,
Kate Wilhelm,
Sir
Arthur C. Clarke, Ray Bradbury,
H. G. Wells,
Jules Verne,
Steven Spielberg,
and original "Frankenstein"
author Mary W. Shelley.
Sounds like a good cast of characters to me, though I think Octavia Butler should be on that list. Perhaps next year. --Shannon Nolley
