The SciFi Channel has won its first Peabody Award thanks to the hit series "Battlestar Galactica."
Winners of the annual award, which recognizes distinguished achievement in electronic media, were announced this week.
Horace Newcomb, director of the Peabody Awards, spoke to E!Online specifically about "Battlestar" saying, "It treats contemporary issues from an angle that really make you think about those issues…issues of race, gender, all those things are dealt with in that context. In a way it's almost a counterpart to 'South Park' (which also won an award) which just throws everything up there, while 'Battlestar' considers them in a dramatic narrative."
The cast of "Battlestar" includes Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer and Grace Park.
Production of the show's third season is set to begin this month in Vancouver and schedule to air next October.
