Frank Spotnitz Joins "X-Files 2" Team

X-Files News of the always-impending, never-filming "X-Files" sequel has bubbled to the top of the pop culture pool once again.

Sci Fi Wire says Frank Spotnitz, a former "X-Files" executive producer and the braintrust behind the series' mythology, has re-upped with his "X" mates to write a feature-film sequel.

Despite his mythology pedigree, Spotnitz says the next film will be a stand-alone "X-File." Back in the day, these non-Cigarette Smoking Man, non-Syndicate, non-Samantha Mulder shows were known as "Monster of the Week" (MOTW) episodes. MOTWs were often hit or miss -- sometimes they inspired incredible characters and plotlines ("Tooms," "Home"), while other shows came off as half-hearted Emmy grabbers ("Post-Modern Prometheus").

Spotnitz says "X-Files 2" will ramp up when series creator Chris Carter and the studio, Fox, tidy up their protracted legal battle. "David [Duchovny], Gillian [Anderson] and I, and even Chris Carter, all have deals in place, and once the legal issues are over with, we will go on with it," Spotnitz tells Sci Fi.

Well, I guess since "Night Stalker" failed he's gotta work on something.
