Lowe To Stir Up Sequel To "Echoes"

Stir of EchoesAccording to Variety, Rob Lowe will star in the sequel to the 1999 Kevin Bacon horror thriller "Stir of Echoes."

Ernie Barbaresh (writer of "Cube 2: Hypercube" and producer of "American Psycho") wrote the script and will direct "Stir of Echoes: The Dead Speak."

The original "Echoes" was written and directed by David Koepp and loosely based on a 1958 Richard Matheson novel of the same name.

Matheson's name should sound familiar to movie fans. Many of his works have been adapted for the big screen, including "The Shrinking Man" (filmed as "The Incredible Shrinking Man"), "Hell House," "Bid Time Return" (filmed and subsequently reprinted as "Somewhere in Time") and "What Dreams May Come."

What does the "Echoes" sequel have in common with the first film? Basically, just that the main character sees dead people. The new film's story apparently revolves around a soldier who returns home from a tour of duty in Iraq only to be haunted by visions of the dead.

Filming of "The Dead Speak" is set to begin in July in Toronto. No word on a release date. -- Shannon Nolley
