Universal Feels Wall's "Anguish"

According to Variety, Universal Pictures has picked up "Anguish," a rework by Jake Wade Wall based on the 1987 Spanish horror film, "Angustia."

The original film was helmed by Luna Films and starred Zelda Rubinstein (best known for her role as the creepy psychic from the "Poltergeist" films) and Michael Lerner (a slew of things including "Kingdom Hospital"). It's best described as a horror-movie-within-a-horror-movie. As an audience in a small theater watches a film about an optometrist on a killing spree, a maniac begins collecting eyes and killing the moviegoers.

Wall is practiced at rewriting old films. He was the screenwriter responsible for the remake "When a Stranger Calls." Wall has also written the remake of "The Hitcher" and the next installment of the "Halloween" series.

Based on an interview Wall did with Bloody-Disgusting.com last July, it sounds like he's written other things, but he doesn't seem to be pushing them. I'd much rather see his film "Amusement" (a horror anthology that's on IMDb, but has simply been listed as "announced" since last August) than yet another remake or sequel.
