Will "Aquaman" Sink Or Swim?

AquamanThis week the CW (the new combo of The WB and UPN) released its 2006-07 primetime schedule. Variety reported that while fan favorites "Smallville" and "Supernatural" are on the slate, the much talked about adaptation of DC Comic's "Aquaman" didn't make the cut.

Variety said, "The CW's adaptation of 'Aquaman,' once considered a shoo-in for fall, wound up being sunk."

Developed by "Smallville" creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the show (dubbed "Mercy Reef") stars (or did star) Justin Hartley in the title role as well as Denise Quiñones, Ving Rhames, and Lou Diamond Phillips.

But wait! Despite the bleak initial outlook, all might not be lost. Yes, it may be going under, but its not sunk yet. SuperHeroHype reported today that a preview for the show has popped up on YouTube. It looks interesting. Well, there's some special effects and Justin Hartley walks around shirtless a lot. That's a good thing.

What's more, the Washington Post reported that there may be hope for a run on CW. The Post said, "The WB's highly hyped new series 'Aquaman' is still in contention for midseason."

So who knows. Even if the CW doesn't run with it, maybe another network will pick it up. The preview mentions the Bermuda Triangle and has Phillips in it - that sounds just about the right speed the SciFi Channel.

Aquaman can hold his breath a long time, right? That might come in handy. -- Shannon Nolley
