Sci-Fi Fodder

Need a "Battlestar Galactica" Recap?

I have a confession to make. Sure, I watched the original "Battlestar Galactica" series when I was a kid. I absolutely set the TiVo to tape the miniseries event...I just never watched it. Then, season 2 came and went, and I still had not picked up the series.

I hear that it is good. Really good. So, if you are like me, what do you do?

The folks at the SciFi Channel obviously feel that there are a lot of viewers like me, so the are graciously airing "Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far." This one hour special will recap the series in preparation for the start of season three. From the official announcement on SciFi Wire, the show will air via the following schedule:

  • Aug. 13 at 10 p.m. on NBC West Coast
  • Aug. 28 Free On Demand via SCI FI's cable affiliates
  • Sept. 15 at 12 a.m. & Sept. 18 at 9 a.m. on USA Network
  • Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. & Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. & Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. on Universal HD
  • Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. on Sleuth
  • Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. & Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. on Bravo
  • Anytime in September on SCI FI Pulse, iTunes or XBox
  • Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. on SCI FI (right before the new season premiere)

It looks like the best TiVo bet is to catch the mid-September showings on USA. Its not too far from the October 6th premiere date, but far enough out to ask your friends to explain anything that you find confusing.

So, you and I have no excuses. Let's get caught up and enjoy one of the best science fiction shows in production.

If you only watch this summarization of events you are doing yourself a horrible disservice! No 1 hour recap can possibly give you the sense of drama and attachment to the characters that this show exudes. Do yourself a HUGE favor and rent (or even buy) the Miniseries & Season 1, and Season 2 disks (the second half of season 2 comes out Sept 19). The bombshell finale that drops on your head at the end of Season 2 will seem like a big yawn in a recap.

Start the marathon now, and when the Season 2.5 dvd's come out Sept. 19 you can marathon-watch those too (trust me, you'll want to), just in time for October 6th which is the premiere. At least you will not have to have waited all this time between seasons, clamoring for MORE MORE MORE like we have! :-)

I know that you are exactly right - a recap never actually captures the essence of a series. Unfortunately, my local Blockbuster is lacking in the TV department.

I always have had a problem buying items 'sight-unseen'; in this case, though, I might have to make an exception. I really need to get caught up ;-)

Every single second of this show is worth watching. The mini-series is brilliant. Season 1 is riveting ... and Season 2 is OH MY GOD does it end on a cliffhanger.

I cannot wait for this show to come back in October.

The show is absolutely amazing. Any sort of 'recap' is completely pointless - it's not just something you can read on paper. The depth and levels on which the show operates is simply astounding and can't be recaptured.

But I understand your position...but if you can help it, do yourself the favour, and at least try and watch reruns or SOMETHING. You'll thank yourself later for it.

Anyways, anyone hear of Stargate SG-1 being cancelled? Damnit. So this is it's last season - 15 more episodes to go. But it was one hell of a ride while it lasted.

Oh, I spoke too soon.

Looks like it still ahs a chance to go on - but Sci-Fi doesn't want it anymore.
