"Threshold" Ending Revealed

Brannon Braga, creator of "Threshold," revealed what his plans were for the series, had it not been cancelled after eight episodes last season.

In his interview with TVGuide, he described how Molly (the protagonist, played by Carla Gugino) would be excluded from the team and Dr. Fenway (Brent Spiner of "Star Trek TNG" fame) would assume command of the Threshold project. For Season 2, it was planned to have many additional alien probes land on earth and to show the resulting chaos. It's not a bad continuation of the premise - too bad the show was flat out awful.

"Threshold" was one of the three cancelled science fiction shows of last season (along with NBC's "Surface" and ABC's "Invasion"). Of the three, "Threshold" clearly featured the best cast, with Carla Gugino, Brent Spiner, Robert Patrick Benedict and Peter Dinkage all giving excellent performances. However, the actors, despite their best efforts, were not able to overcome the dialogue - it was atrocious! Particularly, the lines for Charles Dutton were particularly bad. This guy is an incredible actor, but he was reduced to shouting lines for no apparent reason. His character was downright distracting and out of place.

Interestingly enough, I felt that "Surface" had the exact opposite problem. It was very tightly scripted, but the actors were not that adept. If Josh and Jonas Pate were given the cast of "Threshold," we would be eagerly awaiting season two.
