Sci-Fi Fodder

Nathan Fillion Gets Fox Deal

ComingSoon.net (via the Hollywood Reporter) is reporting that Nathan Fillion has signed a deal with Fox Broadcasting Co. and 20th Century Fox TV.

This means that the studio will develop a new show for Fillion, or, failing that, cast him in an existing project. The article notes that the project will be a comedy or a drama - here's hoping that it will have a sci-fi slant to it!

It is also noted in the article that Fillion, "...who most recently appeared in the feature 'Slither', next stars in 'White Noise: The Light'". This is really slighting Nathan, as he was spectacular as Captain Mal in 'Firefly' and 'Serenity', and also very good as Caleb in the final season of 'Buffy: The Vampire Slayer.'

On the Joss Whedon-centric blog Whedonesque, there are some great comments on the type of show that Fox should develop for Fillion, including this one by 'The Least':

"Hey Fox, I've got an idea for a TV series starrring Nathan Fillion! You wouldn't even need to choose between drama or comedy, because this one has both!

Ahh, you'd probably just cancel it again."

Alas, poor 'Firefly'! Of course, I'd take another thirteen or so episodes of *anything* that is even close to the quality of 'Firefly' - and then complain incessantly when it, too, was cancelled. It's my way.

Friends, we live in exciting times! Nathan Fillion is great, and I'd love to see him on TV again, especially in a sci-fi setting. The only thing that could make this better is if it was a sci-fi/western, in which he played the captain of a beat-up old transport vessel, which he and his rag-tag yet loyal crew used to spread the seeds of anarchy against an imperialist Alliance while attempting to eek out a living flying under the radar of legality. Oh, and Joss Whedon ought to be involved... ;)
