Two 'Stargate SG-1' Movies Planned

TVGuide is reporting that MGM has approved money to produce two original movies based on the 'Stargate SG-1' television series.

According to the article, the first movie will "...tie up most of the finale's loose threads — It's the climax of the Ori story line" and will be written and directed by executive producer Robert Cooper. The second film reportedly features a time travel plotline. Both of these movies should begin production in 2007.

Before everyone goes crazy with excitement, I'd like to temper the enthusiasm by noting that no actors are signed yet, nor have any tentative release dates set for the films. Still, the stars are said to be "very eager" to participate.

This is great news for the Stargate franchise! With the introduction of the MMO game 'Stargate Worlds' next year, the continuation of 'Stargate: Atlantis', and the two movies, the franchise is going strong.
