Battlestar Galactica's Eick to Head 'Them'

David Eick, the executive producer of 'Battlestar Galactica,' is teaming up with director Jonathan Mostow and writer John McNamara to develop a new sci-fi show currently titled 'Them'. The sci-fi invasion show is slated for the Fox Network.

Accoring to SciFiWire, the project is based on the graphic novel 'Six.' Eick and McNamara are writing the script, which involves extraterrestrial terrorists who take human form. The twist is that human emotions act as a kind of drug for the aliens. Mostow is quoted as saying, "On a surface level, it's a really cool science fiction thriller. But underneath, it's a very provocative show that's really going to explore what it means to be human, to be a person."

I don't know much about the graphic novel 'Six.' Here is what I found after a quick search. The comic sounds much more interesting than the pitch for the show (aliens take human form, then struggle with human emotion...not the most original concept). With Eick's influence, however, it might be pretty good if he can infuse some of the essence of 'Galactica' within the scripts.

As a side note, I found an old 1996 pilot for a sci-fi show called 'Them' on IMDB. There is a comment left by a 'Loomisnz' that I have to reprint in full:

'Invaders' type movie length pilot for a TV series that wasn't picked up. Aliens assuming human form are planning to take over the world. Good alien effects but weak storyline copies many others of its kind. And a warning. If you do decide to watch it, as a pilot to a series, it has a cliffhanger ending instead of a resolve.

I am not saying that the creators of the 1996 'Them' have cause for a lawsuit - heck, I don't know if a statute of limitations applies here. But, it sounds awfully similar, doesn't it?
