"Day Break" Cancelled

The speculation can now end. Zap2it is reporting that "Day Break" has been cancelled. They are calling it ABC's "pre-Christmas housecleaning", with several other shows getting the axe.

I had previously speculated that "Day Break" was on its last legs, and would likely be cancelled by the end of the year. I had hoped that the show would get a stay of execution, as the show was gaining some storytelling momentum. It was getting interesting with the day changing based on Hopper's previous actions. However, the ratings were dismal (a 1.4 in the 18-49 demographic), so there was very little chance for the show.

There is no word if any episodes will air in January, or if the series will answer the main question - how was the day looping? The current trend is to release the unaired episode online, so, if you are a fan of the show, watch ABC's website for information.

Day Break was the best show of television these past few months--ahead of Prison Break, tied with Heroes--not including 24 (which was not airing). They should have fired their marketing department not the show.

I am with ya - it was much better than you would have thought from the ads. I don't know if I will give you 'tied with Heroes'...but, it was certainly better than Prison Break, in my view.

Why did they cut it?! I will stop watching ABC and get all my friends to stop as well. I loved it and thought it was a great show.

I agree with Steve above. This is total crap! This show was awesome and getting better and better everytime, pulling you into the "what would I do now" puzzle. I've decided people have no taste in television anymore and can't handle storylines where you have to think beyond "will she end up with him?" It's pathetic that people would much rather watch who's sleeping with who Desperate Housewives and stupid love triangles like Grey's Anatomy & What About Brian and lame been-there done that "comedy" sitcoms than watch some quality thoughtful ACTION drama. Shame on ABC and their inadequate marketing department and shame on all of those people obsessed with sex cuz they obviously aren't getting any...they'd rather fantasize about it while their relationships crumble. If people don't have the sense to at the very least keep Heroes on (high five to NBC) then I will cancel my cable..I'm done with it.

NOTE to ABC on why Daybreak had qoute unquote low ratings.

First : You don't start a NEW show in the middle of the season, reason why most people have already chosen things to watch. September and January are for new shows

Second: Don't put a show in place of a highly popular show that people just found out would be gone for 13 weeks after they had already voiced displeasure about the lack of shows the year before. What you get is a backlash and people who decided to turn off DayBreak before they even turned it on.

Third: The great points of Daybreak were never marketed right. A 13 week thrill ride with all questions, all mysteries being answered this year. Instead most people thought it was groundhogs day reinvented and they thought of watching the same day over and over for the next few years seems even stupid to me. OH and did I forget you don't start a new show during the HOLIDAY season... I mean come on people are busy and traveling and shopping and studying for finals, entertaining guests etc etc etc come on common sense

Read the blogs ABC this show captured peopled like few shows have before. The X-files is one that comes to mind that people felt interconnected to the plight of the characters. Shows like this don't come along that often. Probably the best show I have seen in years. Its was like watching a featured film weekly in your living room.

Finally I'm sure Daybreak will end up somewhere and all of us who loves this show will find it and continue to tell as many people as we can about it. To bad ABC you had a chance to keep us viewers just by communicating with us instead you give us mis-information and lies but somehow trust the Neilson ratings completely when everyone knows its just a damn daily survey that people who participate even admit to lying on. BYE BYE ABC , can't say I will miss you
