"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows"

While I was off on vacaction, there was big "Harry Potter" news! The title of the final book in the series was announced: "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows".

Big News? Well, it spurred this Washington Post article on the possible meanings of the title. In these type of speculations, I tend to fall in line with the simplest theory. Harry's parents were killed on Halloween night...in other words, on a 'Deathly Hallows'. It makes sense!

However, there might be more here. 'All Hallows Day' translates to 'All Saints Day' and is the day after Halloween (the 'Eve of All Hallows'). The day celebrates saints and martyrs in the Catholic Church.

Martyrs. This probably isn't good...

We can clearly relate the martyring idea to Harry's parents; however, back in Book 1, another person sacrificed himself to allow Harry to succeed. That person was Ron Weasley. (Think back to the famous Wizard's Chess game in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone")

Methinks things are not looking very bright in the Weasley household. The Weasley's clock reads 'Mortal Peril' for a reason!
