'Heroes' Finale Hints

Don't worry - I'm not going to spoil anything here. But, 'Heroes' is very popular and, thus, there are many places throwing spoilers and speculation out there for it's 'fall finale' (the new hip term meaning 'there are not going to be any new episodes until next year'). Of course, I will be adding to the speculation!

First, here is the summary of the episode:

“The heroes struggle to come to terms with the Texas tragedy; more is learned about the nuclear bombing predicted in Isaac's painting; Matt and Audrey (Clea DuVall) pursue a new lead in their hunt for Sylar; Niki makes a difficult decision, which will allow her to keep her family safe.”

TVGuide has the best scoops in the Dec. 4 issue. If you click on the link, you will find mild spoilery, including items on the widely rumored upcoming death of a superpowered character, the allegiances of Claire's Dad (the Horned Rimmed Glasses Man) and a theory on the explosion in Isaac's floor mural. Oh, and there is a mention of Hiro with a sword!

Hercules at AICN has much more blatant spoilers (thankfully printed in their patented 'Invisotext' - which I, with much courage and willpower, successfully refrained from exposing). Here is the link to the article, if you are strong enough to resist the temptation.

Now, I have been speculating with my buddies for weeks over the first superhero death. It was inevitable that a death would come in the first major break in the schedule. We have speculated that Matt (Greg Grunberg's psychic cop hero) would be going to Odessa eventually when they pick up the trail of Sylar. That looks to be true from the episode summary. However, my friends and I have a disagreement on who will die. I have maintained that Isaac is the logical death - premonition is too powerful and too easy to have around as a superpower (heroes are stuck? shoot up Isaac and have him tell us where the bad guys are!). My friends are torn between Eden and Matt as the two most likely to meet horrible deaths - most likely at the hands of Sylar in the Claire's Dad's facility. I think Eden is safe, since they started to show a backstory for her. Matt is in real danger, but I suspect he will be persuaded join Eden and the Haitian guy in some sort of 'Mental Superfriends' association.

The second item of speculation is on the topic of who will become the ultimate bad guy. There is a theory that the first villian that a show in this genre reveals is the 'Little Bad'. In other words, if you have a 'Little Bad' (say, Sylar), there will be a 'Big Bad' that will be revealed later in the season that controls or supersedes the little bad. In the case of 'Heroes', I am almost certain the 'Big Bad' will be the mysterious 'Linderman', with the Senator Nathan Petrelli, the HRG and his team, and probably Jessica all working for him. How's that for speculation!?!

The mid-season finale is airing tonight, December 4th, at 9:00 EST.
