"Lost Room" Web Treasure Hunt
SCI FI Channel's "The Lost Room" has started to create a bit of buzz around itself. The show, an eight hour limited series, focuses on a homicide detective who finds a nondescript motel room key. With it, he "...unlocks the door to a world of unimaginable power and becomes the target of those who will stop at nothing to claim it". The motel room contains a variety of mundane objects, each of which actually possesses a unique power also. It looks to be a great little event to TiVo for viewing around the holiday season.
To support the marketing of this show, SCI FI is hosting a pair of web games designed to build interest. The first is an internet treasure hunt, officially called 'Object Hunt'. The player is challenged to find various objects from the show on various internet sites - and they have not made it that easy! The prizes are pretty solid, though, including a Zune Digital Player, a Bose Home Theatre System and an iPAQ.
The second contest is more intriguing to me. It is basically a lottery. After you have registered for the "Object Hunt", you can join the "$5 Million Dollar Bounty" by selecting seven images in a specified order. If your images are shown during the first run of the broadcast (and you contact the SCI FI Channel by 3:00PM the next day), you win $5 million. Easy peasy!
The show airs on the SCI FI Channel on December 11, 12 and 13th at 9 pm ET/PT.
