France to Release UFO Info

MSNBC has an article up reporting that the CNES (Centre National d'Etudes spatiales - the French space agency) will publish its archive of UFO Sightings online.

The agency has created a database over the past 30 years, recording statements on UFO Sightings and other unexplained phenomena. The database reportedly houses approximately 1600 separate incidents and over 6000 individual reports. The official website is here, although, beware, it is entirely in French. Get those Google translators and Babel Fish ready! The database is scheduled to go live in the late January/early February time frame.

The MSNBC article also has a link to an interesting Poll question: Do you believe life exists beyond Earth? When I checked there were 39821 votes, with 79% selecting "I believe we will detect signs of intelligent extraterrestrial life, if we haven't done so already."

Just as a curiosity, I thought I'd do a quick Google search to find out how many people profess a belief in God. Interestingly enough, I found a 2006 Harris Interactive Survey stating 73% of Americans believe in God. That's right - currently, more people believe in aliens than God. Now, I realize that a MSNBC internet poll is not nearly as rigorous as a Harris poll...but, the results are still pretty eye-opening.

Now, I'd like to see another poll measuring the percentage of people that think aliens are actually God, in an 'Epic of Gilgamesh' way. I am betting its higher than you would suspect.
