Sci-Fi Spring Movie Preview (Part 2)
As a continuation to yesterday's post, I am previewing the upcoming movies that will be released this Spring. Here are the movies that will debut in May and June!
May
Spider-Man 3 (5/4/2007)
Spidey is the most anticipated movie of the summer (for me, at least). The only nagging doubt that I have is they may have added too many villains in this one. Venom almost seems like it would be enough as a single villain, but there is also Sandman and Harry's version of the Goblin - so how long will this movie be? Still, there is no way that this movie is not strong. It's a must see.
28 Weeks Later (5/11/2007)
This sequel to "28 Days Later" continues the story. IMDB says "As the U.S. Army tries to restore order, a carrier of rage virus enters London and reinfects the populace." The first movie was pretty good, so I expect more of the same here.
Shrek The Third (5/18/2007)
I have young kids. I will see this movie. If you do not have kids, it still looks pretty entertaining, with Princess Fiona recruiting her girlfriends to fight off a coup. It will be what we all expect - which is pretty good.
Shortcut to Happiness (A.K.A. The Devil and Daniel Webster) (5/18/2007)
This is a weird one. It was evidently filmed in 2003, then shelved for financing and other problems. So, it is either a great little gem that finally found its way to the theater...or a dud with which someone is trying to recoup some investments. It is a remake of the 40's film "The Devil and Daniel Webster", which won an Oscar, so the pedigree is there.
Paprika (5/25/2007)
This is an anime offering that tells the story of a 'dream detective'. The IMDB comments are positive, so if you like anime, check it out.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (5/27/2007)
There are a lot of people (the Forever Geek reviewer is among them) that were disappointed in the second movie of this trilogy. I wasn't. Although not nearly as good as the initial Pirates movie (Johnny Depp was robbed of the Oscar, btw), it served its purpose as a high energy bridge to the payoff - which will be in this movie. Another must see.
June
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (6/15/2007)
I am excited about the second Fantastic Four movie. The trailer is simply, well, fantastic! The Silver Surfer looks great and I think the plot will be better than the first one. They could certainly screw it up - but, I have high hopes.
That's it for the Spring (which officially ends around June 21st). I'll have the Summer previews up in a few weeks, which will include "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" and "Transformers". The Summer looks just as hot as the Spring!
