Series Renewal Updates
Several prominent Sci-Fi shows were renewed and extended this week. So, here in handy-dandy capsule form, is the info that you need to know.
Doctor Who
Doctor Who has been renewed for a fourth season. It's a big hit - how often do you find shows renewed before the previous season has hit the air? As the article states, "The third season premieres on BBC One March 31 and will feature the debut of Freema Agyeman as the new assistant, Martha Jones. She replaces Billie Piper who spent the first two seasons as the popular Rose Tyler..." So, the Brits have confirmation that there will be two full seasons of the Doctor to view on the BBC.
Over here in the US, we can expect Season Three to arrive on the SCI FI Channel sometime this fall. I'm hooked - it is a stalwart on my TiVo now.
Lost
Lost has been officially picked up for a fourth season, despite somewhat declining ratings. Still, this is a great sign. We will get another season of Mac's reviews and maybe, *just maybe*, it will recapture the magic. Heck, even when it's bad, it is still better than Grey's Anatomy.
Battlestar Galactica
The renewal of Battlestar Galactica for a fourth season had already been announced. However, only thirteen episodes were ordered. However, the latest report states that Battlestar Galactica will now get a full order of twenty two episodes! While this is great news, temper your enthusiasm. Most critics believe that there is a good chance the extra episodes were added to allow the writers to properly end the show (and provide miniseries/movie opportunities in the future).
They have to end the series if they find Earth...don't they?
Finally, as a side note, there is still no word on Veronica Mars. Sure, it's not Sci-Fi, but she says 'Frak' and has a pretty good geek appeal, so I am bound by law to include her. The word on the street is that 'Veronica' has a 50/50 chance to survive. If it does get a renewal, the show will likely be fast-forwarded several years into the future, where Veronica is now a young FBI agent.
Any show featuring the word "frak" should automatically be picked up. ;)
