The new Fox drama, "Drive", debuts Sunday night (April 15th) at 8:00 EST (7:00 CST). Yes - "Drive"! The originator of such amazingly corny promo tag lines as "Fasten your seat belt for the ride of your life!" and "The next time you’re cut off by a crazed driver on your way to work, cut him a little slack. He could be racing for his life." You might ask - why would I post about this (not) Sci-Fi show on a Sci-Fi blog?
Well, to be honest, there are some shows that just *feel* Sci-Fi, even though they technically are not. "Veronica Mars" comes to mind - she makes the geek references, she rocks a little tech. "Drive", I think, will fit right into that niche.
Here is the 'official' show summary:
DRIVE is an action-fueled drama following a diverse group of Americans driving for their lives (or the lives of their loved ones) in a sinister, cross-country road race. Some of them have been coerced into joining The Race; others have sought out The Race themselves, hearing rumors of the $32-million prize. Each has a reason to compete. And each must win.
The concept is pure action movie. Still, it stars Nathan Fillion (of "Firefly" and "Buffy" fame), with Amy Acker ("Angel") as his wife. Instant credibility - we have veteran Sci-Fi actors! I don't know what it is, but I typically watch shows that feature my favorite actors from my previous favorite shows.
But, the real draw of "Drive" is Tim Minear. Let's lay it out:
STRANGE WORLD
THE INSIDE
WONDERFALLS
FIREFLY
ANGEL
THE X FILES
LOIS & CLARK
ZORRO
I am really looking forward to this show. Check it out and let me know if I was overzealous - or if we have a new, honorary Sci-Fi show to track!
I am going in without any previews...but, I'm with you - Cap'n Mal is back and looking for Winifred!
