My TiVo - Dead

This is a eulogy to my TiVo. Alas, I hardly knew ye!

Poor TiVo, you were purchased a year ago. When you were asked to record the Lost episode "Left Behind", I could tell that there was something wrong. Everything was pixelated and the sound would stop every few minutes. When I woke up the next morning, you were gone. Or, to be more exact, not *gone*, but trapped on the "Green Screen of Intensive Care".

Oh, I tried to save you, poor TiVo. I dutifully waited the three hours that the "Green Screen" suggested. I actually waited all night. Then, I power cycled you, just as the puiblic forums suggested. But, eventually, I had to pull the plug. And, I was sad.

Luckily, my helpful (yes, really!) TiVo technical support representative was able to secure and send out a new replacement unit - in a single, fifteen minute phone call! And it will arrive this week!

My TiVo is dead - long live my new TiVo!!!

(Now, if I could just get those five unwatched Dresden files back, I'd be in business.)

Condolences for your loss, man!
I dread the day it happens to me - tho it's a Series 1 and has outlasted 3 Comcast DVRs.
TiVo built them to last!

You watch the Dresden Files? Someone watches the Dresden Files?

You recorded not just one but five episodes of the Dresden Files . . . and you're wondering why your TiVo died? Look no further than your own reflection for the culprit.

Heh....I guess I never really *watched* many "Dresden Files" episodes...I mean, I had quite a few on the hard drive there. But, you guys are right - it's the most likely culprit!

Just as an update - TiVo sent me out my new box. I received it last night - it was an 80 hour dual tuner! (much better than the 40 hour I started with) So, I think it all worked out for the best. ;-)

Wow -- so if you call TiVo with a "dead TiVo" issue they'll upgrade? You should get the 80 hour DVR to crap out so you can score a Series 3 ;)

(BTW, I love my TiVo like a pet. I can't fathom losing it ... ever).

Yeah..I was completely surprised by the upgrade! I do have a Series 1 that has been with me for years...but I am afraid to mess with that one, as it has the now-unavailable lifetime subscription. I think I'd be pressing my luck if I called that one in ;-)
