New Reason to Watch "Moonlight"

I was really trying not to post anything about this, since I am a total fanboy on the topic...but, I can't resist any longer.

David Greenwalt has signed on as the executive producer for CBS' new fall drama, "Moonlight".

"Moonlight", as you probably know, "...centers on a private investigator (Alex O'Loughlin) who is a vampire. In his eternal life, he is joined by his former bride (Amber Valletta), a seductive vampire who bit him 60 years ago, as well as a deceitful ally (Rade Serbedzija) who also is undead. The PI's life is turned upside down when he falls for a beautiful mortal woman." It is a fairly interesting, albeit somewhat derivative, premise. But, that is not the reason to watch. No - it's all about Greenwalt!

David Greenwalt. His credits? How about "Angel", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", "Profit" and "Eureka"? And, of course, the quickly cancelled trifecta of "Miracles", "Kidnapped" and "Jake 2.0". I cannot speak for "Kidnapped", but "Miracles" and "Jake 2.0" both were excellent shows - just cancelled before they had a chance to mature.

This is where reality sets in. Similar to Tim Minear, Greenwalt seems to be snakebit, cursed, or just outright disliked by network executives. He continually produces high quality material, which then is summarily cancelled by the network brass.

"Moonlight" has several ominous omens that bode poorly for the show. It will debut on *Fridays* (at 9:00 PM). Friday is a traditional 'slot of death' for programming. And, many sources (here included), have called the show derivative, since, on the surface, the premise seems to be very similar to "Angel". Regardless of the quality of the show, it will take a 'miracle' to have it survive an entire season.

But, as I said in a previous post, I am going to give the show a chance before judging the work. With Greenwalt involvement, my optimism level rose considerably. I have committed to adding this show to my TiVo. Now, I just hope that CBS lets it run long enough to gain a following.

Hmmm....Darla sired Angel, Angel fell in love with Buffy, and Angel was a "P.I."...I'm guessing Joss is cool with this

However, Alex O'Loughlin is quite the hottie and I liked his run on the SHIELD this season, and as much as I miss Angel being on TV, I'll give the show a chance. It might suprise us all.

While Angel will always have a special place in my heart, pining away for more of Joss' terrific series isn't going to bring it back. (Damn the now-defunct WB!) I enjoyed David Greenwalt as a writer for Angel as well as his fabulous work on Miracles, and I love vampires ... I'm in!

*I heard that Australian actor ALEX O'LOUGHLIN is going out with Australian princess HOLLY VALANCE (she is mega multi-talented, she used to be on NEIGHBOURS, now she is a actress/singer/artist/model and martial arts fighter) and also ALEX O'LOUGHLIN is the son of Aussie rock band AC/DC front man BONN SCOTT.
